uno de mis artistas favoritos es Lou Reed, tengo siete discos de él en CD y un recopilatorio doble, además de tres vinilos de aquella época, sin embargo el trabajo de él que más oigo al cabo de los años es seguramente el más desconocido de todos: Songs for Drella.
Songs for Drella es una obra unitaria compuesta, letra y música, a medias con John Cale, para guitarra eléctrica, violoncello, piano y voz, dedicada a Andy Warhol. Todas las canciones siguen la historia y la trayectoria de Andy Warhol desde que es un niño en Pittsburg hasta su muerte chocante y absurda en un quirófano.
Andy Warhol no es ni mucho menos mi artista favorito del siglo pasado, me aburre, me satura, me cansa, me aburre sobre todo, pero su importancia es determinante y capital en la forma de entender el mercado del arte en la actualidad y sin lugar a dudas es el pope del pop, sin embargo esta obra musical extraña, bizarra, profunda, es uno de mis fondos musicales favoritos para pintar, siento que en ella hay una poderosa comunicación pintura/escritura/música que me transporta a un lugar cómodo para crear.
En ella se transmite la filosofía y el anécdotario vivencial de Warhol con precisión, con un añadido de ternura e ironía propia del homenaje del amigo que se siente culpable por no haber sido su amigo hasta el final. En su última canción Lou Reed se arrepiente de no haber estado a su lado los últimos años y hace un bello mea culpa que es todo un himno.
Una de las canciones más poderosas es Work (Trabajar) donde está concentrada la ideología sin ideología de Drella, diminutivo de Barbarella, el mote cariñoso con el que sus amigos le llamaban.
